Flavor of Love 2 Recap - Episode 9: My mother, my hell

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned...

Fol2e9_5

...or so you think, until you meet her mother.

Fol2e9_52

You know she can do that without smoking a cigarette, right?

One of the first images we see on this week's episode is New York in her rollers...

Fol2e9_1

We usually don't get a New York-in-rollers shot until the end of the episode. Either someone's feeling generous or this episode's going to knock everything else that led up to it out of the water. (Truthfully, the answer is a little from column A, a little from column B.)

A Flavogram announces that the families of the remaining girls -- New York, Deelishis and Krazy -- will be coming to visit. Deelishis immediately begins preparing the room she's been staying in for her guests.

Fol2e9_2

New York has other plans for the room -- namely, to take it over. She reasons, "I'm so thankful that we have Deelishis in the house 'cause she makes a great maid." Nice. It's just like an episode of The Jeffersons, except they say "hoe" a lot.

When New York makes it clear that she intends to claim the room that Deelishis just spent time cleaning, it causes a fight.

Fol2e9_3

Ah, the bathroom again. It's like their spot. How romantic. Things get heated, bleeps fly and it's hard to tell exactly what's being said. During the course of it, New York gives Deelishis what can only be described as a round of applause...

Ny_applause

The exact context isn't clear, as there's a voice over while this is shown, but even if it were clear, rollers to hoe-nuts, it still wouln't make sense. Things end on the balcony, where Deelishis tells New York exactly where she's representing...

Fol2e9_6

"Detroit, bitch." New York, on the other hand, reps the Motormouth City.

The fight ends, and soon the first batch of parents arrive -- Deelishis'. She greets them and then tells them that before they're allowed upstairs they have to yell, "Flavor Flav!" the way the girls do at the end of every episode. At first her parents don't want to, which is pretty hilarious. They finally give in, however begrudgingly...

Fol2e9_7

You can tell that Deelishis' mom has a great sense of humor.

Next to arrive are Krazy's clan...

Fol2e9_8

Krazy's dad couldn't be there because of work, so in his place is her grandmother. Really, it's for the best, since within minutes of meeting Flav, she reveals...

Fol2e9_9

"When she was born, I held her in my arms and she squirted out of every place that she could squirt...all over me!" Sounds like a lovely child!

Last to arrive are New York's parents...

Fol2e9_10

Even more emotionally arbitrary than her daughter, New York's mother immediately starts glaring at Flav, just because she can.

Fol2e9_11

Except Flav calls her out on it, and a screaming match ensues.

Fol2e9_12

It's hard to say exactly what they're yelling about (what everything comes down to is that Miss Michelle does not want New York and Flav to be together), but it's easy to note the effect of their bickering...

Fol2e9_13

Fol2e9_14

Entertainment! New York's mom makes her daughter look demure in comparison. Then again, New York's mother makes a howler monkey look demure in comparison. She takes New York aside to scold her daughter for once again attempting to foster a relationship with Flav. New York goes through a rather unconvincing list of Flav's favorable attributes. Most hilariously, she says, "He says words that I never heard before..." and then the best thing in the world happens:

Fol2e9_15

New York's mom does a Flav imitation that is so hilarious, it barely matters that it sounds nothing like Flav. In fact, it sounds nothing like anything that came before it, ever. Anyway, after the vocal-cord mutilation, Miss Michelle says about Flav, "I love him, actually." The kicker? "I just can't stand him." Funny how that works! She ends up apologizing to Flav and even hugging him...

Fol2e9_16

Though, she's probably just trying to get a feel for how much meat he has on his bones, to see whether or not she needs to fatten him up before throwing him in her cauldron.

With all the parents there, the room issue surfaces again, and without much of a fight, New York successfully takes over the room Deelishis had claimed and cleaned. Deelishis says she gave it up because New York's mom was making her sick. Fair enough, since it probably wasn't worth the hassle anyway, but really Detroit seems a lot less intimidating in light of Deelishis' forfeit. New York is, of course, thrilled.

Fol2e9_18

The next day, Flav has a surprise for the girls: his family. All six of his kids and two of his grandchildren arrive to spend an afternoon with the girls.

Fol2e9_19

Varying degrees of inappropriate situations occur. The No. 1 offender is New York, who announces to kids -- some of them barely old enough to talk -- that she's the "queen bitch up in here."

Even better is later, in an interview, when New York refers to Flav's kids as "those little bastards." She immediately realizes that she probably shouldn't refer to kids so harshly...and then, you can hear her really realizing why she shouldn't refer to these particular kids in such a way.

Fol2e9_26

Oopsie!

Even though it would seem that Flav's daughter Karren is biased...

Fol2e9_24

...her love for New York doesn't seem to extend beyond the city.

Krazy messes up, as usual, when asked about college...

Fol2e9_21

..."I want to study, uh, uh...what's it called?" Taxonomy, perhaps?

Of everyone, Deelishis clearly makes the best impression because she's honest and nice to the kids.

Fol2e9_23

A novel approach, to be sure, but it works!

Meanwhile, New York's mother takes her daughter aside, and tells her that she has bad news.

Fol2e9_27

"I don't have long." Neither do we, lady. Get to the point! Miss Michelle tells New York that she has a condition. "They don't have a name for it yet, that's how rare it is." Hmmmm...could it be congenital nastiness?

Of course, it's all a ruse, which New York figures out in two seconds. It's just a game to keep New York out of Flav's arms. As they sit on the bed and quietly bicker...

Fol2e9_28

...it becomes clear that if these two play their cards right, they could be living Grey Gardens all over again in 30 years. Seriously, lock these women in a giant mansion with a few raccoons and some cameras and watch the magic unfold.

It's time for a round of dates and so, Flav takes Deelishis and her parents to a magic show.

Fol2e9_30

Make that, his magic show. Nice that he spent time with all his guests! Flav refers to his magician alias as "The Great Flavdini," though it's clear once he starts that he's more like The Barely Competent Flavdini.

Fol2e9_31

He eventually calls Deelishis up to be in his guillotine...

Fol2e9_35

...that look of fear is totally justified.

Fol2e9_36

Good thing he didn't mess that one up.

Meanwhile, back at the house, Krazy's family is hanging out downstairs, clearly feeling loose.

Fol2e9_32

Really loose. Too loose, in fact, for New York's mother, who goes downstairs to yell at everyone for being so loud.

Fol2e9_33

She's as entertaining as she is unreasonable.

Nymom_gesture1

We haven't seen such complex gesturing since Buckeey was in the house! (That's the universal sign for "Everybody," by the way.)

New York's mom, satisfied that she's sufficiently spoiled the fun, rushes upstairs. In the meantime, Krazy's family convenes by the hot tub, with Krazy actually getting in with her clothes on.

Fol2e9_37

Because taking them off is something she only does when Flav's around! (Oooh! Burn!!!)

New York soon comes out to find out what just went down with her mother, and another fight breaks out. Somewhere along the line, New York's mother comes back down to add to all the shouting. This fight is seriously incomprehensible -- it's best told in pictures.

Fol2e9_38

Fol2e9_39

Nymom_gesture2

Got it?

Eventually, New York and her mom retreat, Flav comes home with Deelishis, and Krazy's demo ends up getting played "accidentally." Krazy takes the opportunity to sing along to the song, which goes either, "Think of all the lies you say" or "Think of all the love she save." So it's either a guilt trip or a song about romantic coupon clipping. Nice. As Krazy sings her now-bombed grandmother sings and gestures along.

Fol2e9_41

There are some pictures that don't need captions to be appreciated. This is one of them.

The next day, Flav decides to take Krazy's family to a hair salon. Krazy, if you'll remember, was the one who received the date to KFC. She always gets to go to the best places! On the way to the salon, Krazy's grandmother practices Flav's trademark "Yeah, boyeeee!"

Fol2e9_44

As you can see, Krazy's grandmother is gangsta.

Fol2e9_45

Really gangsta. As are Krazy's mom and Krazy...

Fol2e9_46

Fol2e9_47

They look so...pulled.

New York's date will take place right outside Flav's mansion, where they'll all eat soul food in the yard. Flav tells New York about how it's going to go down...

Fol2e9_48

...and he catches her off-guard or something because she has virtually no make-up on and she looks cuter than she ever has. Seriously. Less is more! (Although that cliché is sort of the antithesis of New York's philosophy toward life and make-up and addressing people and expressing herself and and and...)

At dinner, New York's mother is predictably difficult -- she says the food looks nasty and refuses most of it.

Fol2e9_50

She settles on a single piece of fried chicken...

Fol2e9_51

...maybe she's eating light because the bile takes up so much room?

After that not-at-all-successful meal, she reveals why she showed up in the first place: to take New York home.

Fol2e9_53

Considering that she's fighting over New York, it'll be a pretty shallow victory, no?

Anyway, victory is not meant to be hers as Krazy gets the boot...

Fol2e9_56

Flav reasons that she wasn't there for him, but to further her career. Great that you caught up with everyone else, Flav. Only took you...eight weeks.

Then, after New York and Deelishis have their clocks, as the elimination period is winding down, something excellent happens. New York's mom, now defeated, goes in to give Flav a hug and her hair gets caught on his crown!

Fol2e9_58

Fol2e9_59

Fol2e9_60

It almost appears that she enjoys the pain, which wouldn't be surprising really. Her wailing tells a different story, though.

It isn't exactly a bucket of water causing her to melt, but you know, you take victory where you can find it.

Anyway, going into the finale, it's New York and Deelishis...that is unless New York's mother intervenes. The last shot of the episode is her going back into the house, calling for her daughter...

Fol2e9_61

Freshalina Lee Simmons

What the hell was that sitting on top of Michelle's head? How many squirrels must die for her to look fly?

doriangz

OMG ! I made the same reflection to myself when we saw NY without makeup. First time ever she looked like a woman and a cute one at that ! She should drop the overly made up look illicopresto

Derrick

Boo at Krazy's demise! I was so hoping for a Hoopz #2 upset.

And lmao at Miss Michelle's "OOGOOABALOOKOOOGAOO" flav impression.

Lorie

Krazy is finally gone--what a waste of space she was!
It's time for Flav to cut New York loose once and for all. His children have spoken as well and they agree with the rest of us that Deelishis is the one.
If Flav picks New York with her mama baggage, he will have lost the best woman he could have--our girl Deelishis. Do the right thing FLAV!!

suga

oh my ! if new yorks mama doesn't look like a character from planet of the apes, i dont know who does...

MS.DEE!!

NEW YORK'S MOMMA IS MORE OF A DRAMA QUEEN THAN NEW YORK HERSELF.I REALLY,REALLY FEEL BAD FOR MR.NEW YORK BECAUSE HE SEEMS LIKE A COOL AND NICE GUY IN THE WRONG RELATIONSHIP SITUATION.THERE IS A DEVIL .

marquitabrass

Flav, you need a woman that would be right for you and your kids(delicious). That bitch New York is retarted just like her mom. Talking about being here for t.v, i heard she's coming out with her own reality t.v. show. Stck with Dilicious and you would prosper.

M to the G

Oh, the symbolism of Mrs. NY's hair caught in Flav's crown.

And did anybody catch (if I heard correctly) when Flav shouted at Mrs. NY, "You're in my space! You're in my space now! You're in my computer!"

Keyarie Moon

This show is getting grate... I thank New york's mom is going to go off the wall because she really feel's her daugther should not be with Flav at all. I feel that New york (Mrs.Tiffany) should stay and if she was to leave then it should be Flav to let her go. With Deelishis still being there flav got a lot to thank about because Deelishis is a veary nice and pritty girl. I thank that Deelishis got this on cause i rally thank Flav is looking for a lady with some hips, brains and lot of body.

leonard lafrance

dear vh1, personel I watch your show "flavor of love" every sunday on vh1 channel.There4 im a big fan of da show,im also a fan of flavor flav. Da most thing i like about the show is the girls.I want to send a special request to deelishis, she is the reason why i write.she is nice an pretty,I want her to send me an email buy 4 now.

Barbara J. Sorey

Congrats to Deelishis. Of all the girls that were left, I think she is the most feminine, caring and considerate. Being a single mother, she will definetly know how to communicate with Flav's kids. She is gracious and would be the perfect compliment to Flav's dramatic side. Her parents except Flav. Also she seems to be the most articulate.

Go Deelishis!

Afrobella

Great recap as usual, Rich! It is surprising to get a comment that doesn't begin with "Hey Flav" as though Flavor Flav himself is writing the blog?

I just realized that you're eventually gonna have to interview New York. eeeeeeee! Can't wait to read that.

rachel

NY is a product of her environment!! I watched in amazment...What an awesome guilty pleasure

Naysa P.

yeah new york.. go home to your mammy

Edmond

whats up homie love your show but ney york is a dam fool fam.

Crippy's Mom

I feel sorry for New York -- her mother makes all of NY's craziness make sense. I was just waiting for her mother to berate her for her appearance because she's so full of LOVE for her girl!
GO Deelishus -- Detroit can beat New York anyday -- can you really doubt that, Rich? Didn't you see the HBIC backing up as she gave that round of applause? Hilarious recap as usual, my friend!

Lollipop Candy♥BAD♥Girl

XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

this was amazing, as always. you go boy! and I LOVEd Flav's kids calling them out on their stuff and NY's mess up. And you're right: she does look a lot better with no make-up at all.

CorbinBlue

Where do they find these people. If New York's mom would've came up in my mama and my grandmama face like Bootz said they would've had to shut the show down cauz we not having that. New York and her mama are drama queens. As for everything else, I am so happy that Krazy went home, she should've been gone like 4 weeks ago. Flav's kids were so cute, the complete opposite of him. God works in mysterious ways. Did you notice how his kids and New York's mom kept playin New York's face about not winning on the first show, I thought that was so funny! Honestly, though who would go back on a show to be with a man after he rejected you the first time. Come on! I'm ready for the finale...I'm ready to laugh at New York's stupidity once more.

 NEW YORK'S #1 FAN

Hooray for Krazy's boot!!!! It's about time that Flav realized what everyone including Ray Charles(rip) seen!!!!! Now all he needs to do is get rid of Deelishus and everything would be str8! But what's the deal with NY's mom???? What is she on???? Just like NY says she's the H.B.I.C!!! Not her mom!!!! Haters everywhere you go!!!!

Keisha

Deelishis was right. Poor NY, she can't help that she's balls to the walls crazy, bc her mom is DOUBLE that. And I sooooooooo thought the same thing that you did when NY came out w/o her makeup on! If she would just get a better weave, and wear less makeup, she could be a better manipulator, bc ppl wouldn't be so focused on how cracked-out she looks.

Anyway, soooo...finale, best of, and then reunion show, huh? It's goin DOWN.

Keisha

Oh yeah, and seeing as how NY can't really read, anything flav said could be a word she's never heard before...

And I hate to say this about my fellow sisters and brothers, but Ms. Michelle looked like a straight up gorilla, ESPECIALLY when she did that Flav "impression." I guess NY took after her dad in looks some, but why not in personality too? That poor, sweet, passive man has been living w/ them their whole lives? I would have been crazy myself by now!

Ashley

I want Deelishis to win because she is the only girl in the house with a lot of common sense unlike New york. Deelishis (London) is great with kids. she can do almost a lot of things that New York can't do.I hope and pray that Deelishis gets picked. Even though New York didnt get picked last season, she's not going to get picked this season. If Flav picks New York, his kids are going to hate him for the rest of his life.

brittany

deelicios is the 1 new york is crazy

Tomika

New York, New York She looks like that flying dog off of "The Never Ending Story"

Terry Carpenter

New York is a serious head case as is her mom. They both need a good shrink. I sure hope Flav picks Deelicious as she is so sweet and would fit in so good with his family. I think Flav is a good guy and doesn't need the insults New York's mom is always throwing at him and he sure as hell doen't need New York and her fake ass. She's the most fake ass bitch that has ever been on the show.
