Salt-N-Pepa's Here...and on VSPOT

The first episode of The Salt-N-Pepa show doesn't hit VH1 till Monday at 10/9c, but you can watch it in its entirety now on VSPOT. Peep the first act below, which finds the hip-hop legends reuniting after years of estrangement.

The section's biggest revelation: that "Push It" is perceived by some to be about sex. Or, as Pepa implies, "Aw, p****! P**** good! P**** real good!" Be that as it may, WTF? That never crossed my mind, but then again, I don't know if I ever really thought about what that song was really about. What do you think? What does "Push It" mean to you?

Oh, and you can watch the rest of the episode here.

You never thought, "Push it real good," was about sex? Did you see the video? Maybe you weren't into hip hop back in the day but I was a wee lass when it was a hit and I remember my dad getting mad when I would sing it...

i love pepa, grew up on that music, still play blacks magic(in my car) but pepa really needs to grow up! she is behaving like a tattered queen!

Salt-n-Pepa was what they were and they ain't never gonna be again. I was a fan; I still listen to their music and remember yesterday. But like the girls, I've moved on. Salt needs to wise up: she might have found Jesus, but it looks like she didn't give back any of the royalties she received and is still getting for Salt-n-Pepa music, which she now believes is the work of the devil. And Sandy needs to grow up: you can't go back to being Pepa, but you can help other hip-hop artist understand the game, and still bring flava.

My sister used to hate that sound for that same purpose. As younger brother, it was my duty to bust it old school with Pooosay, REAL good!

I thought it was a joke, but apparently her feelings are validated.

Let me see how well I know my favorite female Hip-Hop atrist of all time (from the outside lookin' in, though). Salt-in the beginnin' of their career had a real drive/love for what she was doin', just listen to the energy in her voice on the first 2 SALT'N'PEPA Lps. Hurby (Luv Bug) Azor was her engine (boyfriend) during those times. Somewhere 'round '89 they were either done or well on the way. NOW, if anyone recalls-no SALT'N'PEPA album in '89. They were due for a 3rd time out (as far as the streets were concerned). THEN, finally, with not much else for options at the moment, and the record label also expecting a 3rd delivery, by 1990 Salt(I believe from watching alongside Hurby) came up with EXPRESSIONS that she self wrote AND PRODUCED. That, along with that song was something new and different from them. By all means though-I salute Salt (Cheryl) for that forever. But when the 3rd Lp BLACK'S MAJIC finally emerged, Salt's energetic voiced now seemed (to me) to have encountered a sort of grief/sadness. Sure she'd grown but that's my theory/detection. Her, and Pepa was having their break-up's (Pepa-with Tyran's father) Salt suffered a long heartbreak/healing process from her & Hurby's break-up. She was gonna leave the duo back then too, because she said so on a video show called PUMP IT UP. Whatever her reasons are for not wanting to reinvent the duo again-I repsect HER CHOICE... BUT, she should NEVER, EVER denounce what made her famous/people love her (and Pepa), and financially well off from where she started out, not to say she wouldn't have been okay with that nursing career she was then persuing. She's a major contribution to an important form of Black music, which is engraved in history forever. Plus she had the opportunity handed to her-although she worked DAMN HARD, and deserves the money that artist get today. But what she did is NOTHING to be looked at as the devil's work. She was young, and last time I checked-ain't NOBODY perfect, not even the preacher giving the sermon. Pepa needs to respect Salt's decision if that's what she's sticking with. Hell, I myself produce beats (not professionaly) and would love to produce an ENTIRE SALT'N'PEPA CD for FREE. That's how much/deep a fan I am. But again, if Cheryl (Salt) TRULY feels she's finished, then I too gotta respect that, like it or not. And Hurby (Luv Bug) Azor is my true inspiration/influence when it comes to producing, and the art of producing. Thank you Hurby and Salt'N'Pepa if y'all ever get to read this.

Hey Salt-n-Pepa I am Big Fan And So Is My MOM!!!

Tammy

I'm a big salt and pepa fan. It's good to see them back together. Hopefully salt can get pepa to see that they're women now and they can do music but not what they were doing in the past.just as people grow so does music. I hope salt could see that loving God doesn't mean that she can't except pepa for who she is. Instead of thinking pepa could drag her away from God she could pull pepa to him.I wish them the best and just hope that they can hear what each other are saying and make something great. I wish them the best

I just saw the three clips and think the show is really good. That's a real story and it doesn't come off as fake 'reality' show. Pepa has "realness" and a great TV personality. Salt's still got it, and at least is willing to "step out on faith" to make the project work, without compromsing her values. I also like the religion-centered lyrics to "What A Man" as much as the old ones.

harlemgurl

I just want to know one thing (well maybe 2). WHAT THE HELL DID PEPA DO TO HER NOSE!!!! She looks ridiculous. It was bad enough when Salt tampered with hers back in the 90's. But DAMN, Pep! Why you hadda go and do that? It looks ridiculous. So when I watch the show, is her nose going to alternate? I know they don't play the episodes in order. Enduring that is gonna be extremely difficult, and distracting. Atleast New York waited to get her boobs done between seasons. Dayum!!!

Lysa

"Push It" was always about dancin' my a$$ off.

future_nurse

i grew up on snp and i always that pusht it was baout dancing. they have soem serious unresloved issues i hope they can over come.

Toni

I am just plain old disappointed. Why come back together and try to do the same music if you are not the same people. Just write new songs. Salt is VERY CONTROLLING!!! I am tired of hearing her say that she does not want to be there. She must want to be something or why do the show??? Why can they just not be too separate people. I am tired of watching this bickering. I will not be tuning into this. Not even to support them, its a horrible, bickering show.

Chellychell 513

I am a long time fan of SNP. I remeber when the first video Tramp came out , i tried my best to duplicate many of there styles. Salt i admire how you had to break away , to find you. I am at a point like that. You are still a role modle

MRG

OK. After seeing the first show, I think a couple of things need to be understood. First, if Salt has made a change in her life and sees performing with Peppa to really be a difficult thing for her to do then she shouldn't do it PERIOD! I think it is wrong for her to change words to songs, or eliminate some of the songs that made them the group they were because she can't handle it. She cannot straddle the fence and expect Peppa to change everything about herself because she is in a different place. Face it and own up to it.

Second, Peppa needs to forgive Salt for leaving the group at the time. Let it go! Salt gave her reasons for leaving and has asked for forgiveness. I think Peppa should forgive, move on and accept that life is now different for them as a group. Maybe the reunion was for personal reasons and not professional advancement. Just accept where each person is and move on!!

jan

Salt should take her self indulgent behind back to the suburbs, Pepa is better off without that narcissistic jerk by her side..... Wake up lady, everyone has problems you were given a gift and now you have a chance to do something for the person you hurt but all you can do is feel soooo sorry for yourself… all this chick is doing is saying me me me me me, boo-hoo feel sorry for me Pep, oh and by the way sorry for ruining your career and future pfftt. This lost twit needs a slap upside the head.

Be true to yourself

I think pepa need to do her own thing because salt act like she need somebody to hold her hand on songs she made and still getting money off of them ; Pepa cut your losts and do your own thing. Never let somebody insecurties about themselves stop from being yourself in an good way.

Carla Wilson

Salt you are not a true christian or human for that. Since as a christian you are not better than GOD, He gave freedom of will and you are acting as if yuo are better than God n taken away Pepper's free-will.
you are so controlling and selfish you want to be in your comfort zone what about her comfort zone. You must never throw stones or be so pharisaic that you would have had helped in the crucifiction of Christ because he did not live up to your par or to your comfort zone.
You are such a hypocrite to christians everywhere, with the I am "holier than thou" fake routine. you are not her saviour or condemnor. You are not holier than GOD!!!

Wanda from Detroit, MI

I had a real problem with Salt on the show on Monday. She made her money pushing and grinding, now she thinks she's to good because she has found faith. It's good that she found faith but stop trying to change Pepper in the process. It's not like she just meet Pepper and didn't know how she was. Hey Pepper if you need a person who likes you just the way you are please do call. And if Salt has such a problem with the music, she can give me back all the money I spent on her half of the music. I struggle with my love for Hip Hop and the contradictions that it is to my faith everyday!!! Love the show. Yes I did think Push it was about sex. I was in high school and my friends and I knew that song and video better than our own names at times. We used to break out into the dance moves from the video no matter where we were, restaurant, drive-thru, no matter where we were. God Bless Yall.

I was real disappointed, being a Christian, we are taught their are no luke warm Christians either you are or your not. Way to go Pepa for doing the church seen, however Salt doesn't need to prove any points, she should have apologized for leaving how she did and left Pepa how she truly is.

sweet t

loved the show, was and still is a fan I am so happy to see each one of them is doing their own thing. let peppa be her own person she will find her spot one day. She will find her own way one day. you cannot push the lord on no one so until then they will always be the bomb no matter what much love to the both

Jae

Salt has the right name cause she a salty chick spittin salt all up in Peps game… Salt is a fake hypocrite she wanna straddle the fence… u are or you aint! Truthfully if you faith is all that to you , you have no business doing the show… Then you wanna spray perfume on sh*t and serve it to God in Church… WOW…
The you wanna judge Peps clothing she chose for church u look like you were going to happy hour yourself! Pep you NOSE WTF?! WHY!? You had a nice nose… now you have Lil Kims nose… yall got the same Dr… don’t yall??? My people are so troubled…
And Salt you don’t have the joy of the Lord you seem unhappy and so depressed… at least Pep knows who she is… Who r u salt?

candie wise

I didn't exactly enjoy the show even though i understood were salt was coming fom she was rather depressing and not what i rememberd.Salt contradicted herself by judging and being manipulative. Its like lets perform at my church to prove a point because she no them same folk gone see her show and her back on the scene doing seculer music. Salt is not better than peppa she is a child of god too.Sal didnt prey with her or have anything positive to say about pepper, but that lust is still in her own heart or she wouldnt have taken it this far.Peppa do you cause we are the people Jesus is talking to he knows our faults we sin through thought word or deed everyday.Salt you are going through a spiritual battle within yourself,so if you feel that you are better than this and that then why are you even pursuing this show with peppa you no were her mind is at.She wants the limelight either pass it on or turn it around just dont be fake ya are defintely not on the same page or are ya?I hope ya read these comments to.I will watch it again but if salt dont come real im over it.Ya the reason sex sells ya created lilkims image haha.

jay27 ga

how dare you question Salts faith and relationship if you knew anything about God you would not have made this dumb comment I applaud Salt for not wanting to compromise her relationship with God to defrain her character as a christain good for her, however if she so choose to perform again just remember to put God first seek him and if Pep can't understand who you are today and it doesnt work move on sister, however i love your reality show.
