The Celebreality Interview - Ted Lange

Ted_cfc_interview

Ted Lange unfortunately did not growl and yell, "Pancakes!" during the course of this interview. He did, however, shed lots of light on his Celebrity Fit Club particpation. After the jump, Ted gives us the skinny on getting skinny.

Do you feel this show has changed your life in any way?

It was the push I needed to get my act together. I do not think I would have been as committed to losing the weight if I did not know in the back of my mind millions of Americans were watching me be as good as my word. That is a very important concept to me: "Say what you mean and do what you say, or get the hell out of the room."

How do you feel about your weight loss?

Getting my weight back down to a manageable size is a big plus for me. First of all I have lots of clothes that I was saving that I thought were forever lost to me. I just couldn't fit into a damn thing. Some of that was expensive -- I bought it with Love Boat money. I couldn't bear to part with it, but hell I couldn't fit into it either. Plus some of the clothes just were not that dated. And a man's suit can always be recut. ...but you can not add fabric. So either I had to lose the weight or toss the items. Thanks to the Fit Club, I get to get back into some of my favorite clothes. Plus I am now a much healthier person. I have modified my diet. The trick for me now is to keep the weight off. I am curious to see how this will affect my career. As I have been playing character parts for the last ten years, I think I am a little long in the tooth to be the leading man, but maybe I can be the father to the leading man. The jury is out on that part of my journey and only time will tell if I can recover and the industry sees something they like in the new me. I know I can always do theatre, but every once in a while I like standing in front of a camera. So we will see what the future holds.

What do you think of your team, before and after the shake-ups?

The original team was fun. We bonded and got to the point that we were really working as a unit. Carnie was a good Captain and Vinnie and Tina and I had a good chemistry. We supported each other. I think that is evident when you watch the show. We were losing the weight together and I think the best of everyone was coming out at that point. Once we changed the dynamic of the team all hell broke lose...and not in a good way. It was like the ultimate betrayal; and it was hard for the team to recover from that. The second team became a different ball game, but I think at the same time it was a stress that put people's real feelings on the line. Their true nature surfaced. For good or bad it was out there and you had to deal with it. Some people were better actors than disciplined human beings.

Who do you think is most likely to keep the weight off?

I think Tina and Erika will keep the weight off. Erika has one thing going against her, she is returning to Canada. She is taking herself out of the mix. Maybe Tina has the edge there because she is staying here in Hollywood. I would like to add my name to that list of being able to keep the weight off... but the only true test of course is time.

On the other side, who do you think is most likely to eat a bucket of fried chicken?

I have no doubt in my mind that Nick will be the first person to eat a cheeseburger. But he can afford it. He is young and he is at a point in his life, when he puts his mind to it, he can lose the weight. If you had asked who would be the first person to eat a pastrami sandwich, I would say Angie. With carrot cake for dessert. I think that is the real hard sell there. She feels entitled to her cellulite. How do I know that? I overheard her say it. I think Angie will have the toughest time of it. Carnie is a poster child for Gastric bypass. She has a vested interest in looking fit. Angie is a song writer/ performer. Maybe if she stays on stage she could master her demons, if not she may go the way of Aretha Franklin.

Do you have any health/diet/exercise plans for your post-CFC life?

The great thing about being in show business is that the future is unknown. I have set goals... but the only true achievement has been that I am in show business. I wanted to be in the TV show Roots, I wanted to act with James Garner on The Rockford Files. I thought I should be in Julius Caesar when Denzel Washington did it on Broadway. None of these things happened. I just go with the flow of where life is taking me. I try not to be disappointed in the falling down and I try to stand up with as much enthusiasm as possible. As far as dieting? I like my new body and I want to hold on to it as long as possible. Will this be the case? Time will tell. For me it is a matter of concentration. If I can stay focused I think it will all work out in a positive way. I am not sure, but I am going to give it my best shot.
